Homeless Dog Was Sleeping On The Streets. When They Try To Rescue Him The Next Day, I Broke Down

There are many amazing individuals in the world. The people involved in the nonprofit group, “Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project”, are some of them. These volunteers not only donate their money, but also their invaluable time to save as many stray dogs as they can.

Houston area has many homeless dogs. Some are abandoned by their families, while some of them are born feral. Throughout the years, the Forgotten Dogs of the 5th Ward Project have fed innumerable dogs and have rescued 864 dogs from the 5th Ward alone.

They rescued homeless dogs off the streets and helped them find loving forever homes. They are a no-kill rescue and they try to help as many dogs with food, vetting, and proper pet care.

But one day, a volunteer came across a homeless dog and noticed something heartbreaking. She felt this pooch was a representation of a much bigger problem of the thousands of homeless dogs in the streets. She took a photo which went viral instantly.

This touching image is a representation of a bigger problem in Houston. If you live around the area, don’t forget to keep an eye out for this poor dog.

The volunteers were caring for strays and catching them in order to treat them and eventually put them into good homes. That’s when they found this dog. He was seen cuddling up to an old teddy bear.

The team from Forgotten Dogs Of The 5th Ward Project wanted to capture him and bring him to safety, but their van was full from the strays they had picked up earlier.

They decided to come back as soon as they could to catch the sleeping pooch.

Sadly, by the time they came back, the dog had left. The volunteers however, found the dog’s owner. 89 year old Calvin confirmed the pooch was his, but said he always managed to free himself and live homeless in the streets.

With so many strays in the 5th Ward, he has tried everything in his power take care of as many as dogs as possible. But this dog always escaped over the fence and ran away.

The volunteers offered to provide the man with some vet costs and to neuter his remaining dogs. He happily thanked them.

Let’s hope, the sleeping dog will be found again and either be given to Calvin or brought to a loving new home. And let’s also hope that all stray dogs find a second chance at life because they all deserve it.
